White Lotus Restaurant

This place opened when I just lived down the road in West Melbourne. But soon after I moved to Kallista and now live in Marrickville. So it was good when it was suggested that we have dinner here. The menu has changed quite a bit in all these years. Previously it was just plain, really good Chinese vegetarian dishes. I had something that I had only tasted on the central parts of the YangTze river the first time I visited. I still do not know what it was. But now they have refined their craft. It is eerie. The vegetable dishes not only taste like their meat counterparts. They did this before. But now they look like them and have the same texture. Truly the finest proponent of this style of vegetarian food I have ever encountered. We had the fish and roast duck as mains.

167 Arthurton Road Northcote

In 1991 I purchased this property. I had the intention of making renovations while living in it. But durting the settlement period I moved to Adelaide. After 18 months there I came back to Melbourne. For a while I house sat a freinds house in West Melbourne, before moving to Kallista. My work friends called me a slum lord, but I also charged a low rent. Since then I have lived in Sydney.

I paid for an architect to produce a design for the creation of three units. However, after getting all the building approvals, it came to be time get the loan. I looked at the amount of money and the profit margins and decided that there was too little margin to cover the risk of rising costs. So I sold the property with the plan and permit. The builder has completed the rebuilding. Here is the result.

A walk in Cocoparra National Park

On my weekend trip to Griffith, I stopped at Cocoparra National Park. I did not get to the top of the mountain as I intended, but instead ended up in the Spring Hill Picnic Area and doing the walk to the very dry, Flacon Falls.

After driving down a decent dirt road, I arrived at the Spring Hill Picnic area.

A quick check of the signs and I was off on my way to Falcon Falls. I like the sign. Too often when it says half an hour you do not know if this was half an hour, one way, return, or indeed if it is the speed of a speeding park ranger or a dawdling family with a pram.

Along the path, you can see that this are is still in fully blown drought. Have a look and then thing, only a few days before it had rained. Obviously they need somewhat more rain. When I did reach the destination, I saw the wondrous, Flacon Rocks.

SPB Photowalk #16 - Wollomoloo and Kings Cross

We went for a walk from town hall around Wollomoloo and then back to Kings Cross station. Some of the others continued, but I had to stop as I needed to have rest.

I got roped into going to this fundraiser. It was a quiet night (sadly) but there was some good music.
