Mount Tomah Botanic Garden

I was driving along, the poorly named, Bell's Line of Road and went into the gardens. Once there, the man at the gate asked the reason for my visit. (Now some people may consider this an invasion of privacy. I do not.) Armed with my reason for visiting he gave customized advice on what I could do. Now I visited because I have driven past many times and never stopped. So I though, I have some spare time, why not stop and have a look. These are the photos from my visit.

10 Most Magnificent Trees in the World.

Well another one where one of my pictures has been used. This time a blog about trees. The old boab tree. No one knows how they got to Australia from Africa, but they have been in Australia for at least 10's of thousands of years.

Strangely this blog seems to have been copied both here and here.

Voting in the NSW state election

Voting, originally uploaded by yewenyi.

Well today I voted in the 2007 NSW state election. The lead up is a non event. People do not like the current government, they do not like the oposition. The voting system is broken and NSW politics sucks. I will add a longer post on one of my other sites when I get a chance about the state of the voting system in NSW and why I think it is stuck in the 19th century.

Sitck Figure in Peril

Went up to Mona Vale and did two of Charl's new caches and had dinner. The first one was Stick Figure in Peril, the second Sea Air. I have not posted the photos from the second cache, yet. We had dinner at the Hong Kong Chinese restaurant, a Newport establishment, and the food and service was very good. The Hong Kong Chinese restaurant has what I would call modern Australian Chinese food. It is based on the Chinese tradition of food, but it is not Chinese food. It has been modified for Australian tastes. The only variance from this is the deserts which are typical of Australian Chinese deserts from 30 years ago. So I had some yummy lychee and ice cream.

wombat berry and sea air

While doing one of Char's caches (sea air) we had some local food, the strangely named wombat berry. I wonder if they are also eaten by wombats?

Autumn’s Mushrooms and the Cultural Connection

A nice little side line, one of my photos was used in a blog by the local polish community on a site that is mostly about weeds. We found this one while geocaching a while back...

Mushroom

Apparently (from another polish source) this one is best cooked on one side in a little butter.

Point Cook

My brother lives in Werribee, near Point Cook. I have been meaning to go there for quite some time, so, finally, I made it. The displays are very good.

Tank girl

Well after all this time, I finally watched Tank Girl, thanks to Jeremy and Ellise. I have wondered for years what the reference was about. What a hoot. I poke out my tongue...

Opera on the Big Screen

Well I headed off with Charl, Kent, Fiona, Andrew and Peta to the Opera on the big screen. This was a free event live telecast to Melbourne. It was quite interesting, but I will really have to go into the main concert hall one of these days to see a performance.

web site

Well a strange thing happened. Last night when I came home my web site was broken. I could not be bothered working out why, though a quick search indicated the line where the error occurred and there is a strange ip address in the log (65.55.208.771172998283). So I rolled the site back to the previous version. Very easy to do. Today when I went to my page, what I had done last night was undone, and one directory was recreated with nothing in it. (I had moved it else where as it was the candidate for what was wrong.) The site was working again as it was before I returned home yesterday. The change I made to roll it back was unmade. Very strange.

korean food

It is Korean Restaurant - shop 2, 163 forest road, hurstville, nsw 2220. As we were westerners, they did keep over us like a mother hen, which was quite nice. The main and side dishes were good. The one dish was enough for two people.

The dish is Bulgolgi and octopus casserole.
